Leading razor company Gillette have end their association with Indian cricket team all-rounder Hardik Pandya over sexist remarks on women’s during tv show “Koffee with Karan”. Brands and companies are reviewing their associations with cricketers Pandya and KL Rahul as both players were suspended from taking part in Australia ODI series.
Gillette company spokesperson has told TOI that they have ended sponsorship deal with Hardik and company will review the terms and conditions with the cricketer in due course.
“Hardik Pandya’s recent comments do not reflect the values of Gillette. We have suspended our association with Hardik until we decide on further course of action,” company spokesperson said.
As per data, Hardik Pandya has been associated with 7 sponsors that include top brands like Gillette, DFY and a sports wear company launched by Puma. When the reporter asked D.F.Y company spokesperson, he denied to comment on the association with Hardik.
“We are a very small brand compared to the other ones endorsed by Pandya. You should spear to them,” he said.
Duff & Phelps Managing Director Aviral Jain had already predicted that Rahul and Pandya’s brand value could be effected in near future as top celebrities like Aamir Khan and Tiger Woods have faced such kind of boycott from companies after their controversial remarks in due time.
“As we have seen with celebrities such as Aamir Khan, who lost his endorsements after he made comments that did not go down well with a certain section of the audience or even golfer Tiger Woods who got embroiled in a controversy, Pandya and Rahul’s brand valuation may be impacted in the short run,” Aviral said.
BCCI has already said that they will restrict players appearance on the social events and shows as such kind of instances impact communities and brand value of the board as well.
