“Somalia makes history to win its first ever FIFA world Cup qualifier clash. Somalia beat Zimbabwe 1-0 in the first leg of the 2022 FIFA World Cup preliminary qualifier clash in Djibouti this evening,” Somalia football federation said in a release.

Country President Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed congratulated the team for amazing victory over Zimbabwe and quoted this victory as remarkable feat. Also Somalia president is desperate to welcome the boys home for their return leg of qualifying matches.
“Congratulations to our OceanStars. Your victory is remarkable. You have played purposely. We are eager to receive you back home as you prepare for the return leg,” Abdullahi said on twitter.
The victory is big for Somalia as their FIFA ranking is 202 meanwhile Zimbabwe is way ahead to them at 112 out of 211 countries. Anwar Sidali Shakunda was the real star for Ocean Stars as he scored match winning goal in the 86th minute of match.
Zimbabwe to host return leg match on 10 September.
