The sixth match of the Caribbean Premier League was played between St Lucia Zouks and Guyana Amazon Warriors at Gros Islet. The Zouks lost their previous match at home. The match was reduced to 18 overs due to Rain. Guyana Amazon Warriors won the toss and elected to field first.
Andre Fletcher started the innings like same way he did in the last match. He hit two fours in the first three balls of the first over of Merchant de Lange. The openers gave a blistering start and reached fifty in no time. Charles and Fletcher accumulated over 60 runs in the Powerplay. Fletcher was undone in the seventh over for 36, soon Charles and Mayers followed him when both were out to Sunil Narine. The Zouks reached 90 in 8 overs.
Then the middle order struggled to score quickly. Kevin Pietersen and Henry Davids couldn’t score much and the run rate dipped down. Ross Taylor and Darren Sammy showed some resistance and took Zouks to 156 in 18 overs. Sunil Narine and Veerasammy Permaul took 2 wickets each for the Amazon warriors.
Amazon started the innings slowly but steadily. Lendl Simmons and Tillakeratne Dilshan score at a rate of 6. Suddenly Dilshan misread a Bouncer from Roach and hit on the helmet. He started bleeding and had to leave the field. Chanderpaul joined Simmons and both made 39 runs in the Powerplay. Soon, Roach got the wicket of Simmons. Dinesh Ramdin, who promoted himself at number 3 played a cameo of 21 runs in 10 balls. Chanderpaul followed him two balls later who ate 17 balls to score 7 runs.
Brad Hodge and Barnwell built a partnership for the fourth wicket when the asking rate was exactly 10 in the last 9 overs. Hodge attacked the Zouks bowlers and played his strokes. They targeted Leie and scored 15 runs in the 13th over. Hodge was solid from one end. Amazon required 38 runs in three overs which was looking possible as both Hodge and Barnwell accelerating nicely.
Fidel Edwards got the priced wicket of Barnwell in the 16th over and suddenly Amazon warriors required 28 from the last two overs. Dilshan came back from injury and three boundaries to Roach. Amazon Warriors required 14 runs off the last over but some fine bowling from Edwards resisted Guyana Amazon Warriors fell short by 2 runs.
Johnson Charles adjudged the Player of the Match for his blistering innings.
