3rd Quarter-Final: Argentina beat Colombia by 5-4 in Penalties

The most awaited match of the Copa America 2015 till now ended in a goalless draw after the 90 minutes. Both sides went pretty close, hit the bar quite a few times but resist to net the ball. Argentina were far better side on the field still the likes of Messi, di Maria, Tevez and Aguero couldn’t find the net.

Argentina beat Colombia in Penalties by 5-4 of 2015 Copa America quarter-final.

The first half was quite rough as the Colombians tackled the Argentina every now and then. James Rodriguez was shown the Yellow in the 12th minute of the game. Falcao was not given a start as expected and that ensured Colombians will play defensively. Since there are no extra time after the two halves, Penalties were expected to be the decider.

Argentina claimed for a penalty when Messi was pulled down in the 21st minute but nothing was given by the Mexican referee. Teo Gutierrez was called off in the 25th minute of the game who barely had a touch of the ball. It was a big decision taken by the Colombia’s manager, Jose Peckerman. Columbia had their heart on their mouth when Aguero slide the ball at the near post by Ospina made a superb Double save to make it 0-0 at the half time.

Second half began and Columbia started better after they looked pale in the first half. Over 65 minutes of the game, Columbia is yet to test Sergio Romero at the other end. They haven’t had a shoot on the goal! Argentina thought the game might go to the penalties so they took off Aguero and fielded Juve forward Carlos Tevez at 73rd minute.

Some few chances were created in the last minutes of the game when Banega clipped off the bar and some really good saves by Ospina took the game to penalties. Argentina almost won the match in the 88th minute when Murillo dribbled over the goal line.  Messi was booked in the final minute which was not deserving though.

Penalties

James Rodriguez took the first kick for the Columbians and he converted it 1-0

Lionel Messi shoot opposite to the goal Keeper and levelled it 1-1

Radamel Falcao thunders the shot to the top corner, Columbia 2-1 Argentina

Garay thuds it in to the roof to make it 2-2

Cuadrado scored, 3-2. Banega somehow manages to beat Ospina and its 3-3

Muriel blasted the ball and it went high over the bar. Columbia missed, 3-3

Lavezzi edged past Ospina and Argentina are a save away to semifinal, 4-3

Cardona had to score and he did it to give one more chance, 4 all

Lucas Biglia puts the penalty wide and the game went to sudden death. 4-4

Zuniga was saved by Romero but Marcos Rojo Missed by clipping off the bar.

Murillo spooned the penalty high and wide. 4-4

Carlos Tevez scored the penultimate shot to take Argentina to the Semifinal. 5-4

Argentina Beat Columbia 5-4 on penalties after a goalless draw and will face the winner of Brazil vs Paraguay.
