Ankita Raina wins Bronze at 2018 Asian Games

India’s women tennis sensation Ankita Raina has bagged bronze medal at 18th Asian Games in Jakarta. Winning bronze at 2018 Asiads, Ankita has become second woman after Sania Mirza to win singles medal at Asian Games. Ankita lost the semi-final match against China’s Zhang Shuai.

In two hours long run game, India’s no. 1 women tennis player Ankita lost the semifinal in direct sets by 4-6, 6-7 (6).

The best ever performance from an Indian player in women’s tennis event came from Sania Mirza in 2006 when she won silver medal at Doha Asian Games. Sania also claimed bronze in 2010 Asiads.

Before heading to Jakarata for Asian Games, Ankita Raina was confident of winning and she was hopeful to win gold. But she settled for Bronze. Ankita said in an interview to sportsmirchi, “I myself have lots of hopes and I think the hopes are there because I know I’m capable of achieving that.”
