International Cricket Council have confirmed that postponed 2020 t20 world cup will be played in 2022 year in Australia. Meanwhile originally scheduled 2021 ICC twenty20 world cup to be held in India. ICC also postponed 2021 women’s ODI world cup until 2022 February-March.
Few days back cricket’s largest governing council cancelled this year’s T20 World Cup due to COVID-19 pandemic and keeping things in the mind, ICC decided to postponed 2021 women’s cricket world cup as well scheduled for February-March.
All these decisions were taken by the IBC committee of ICC.
“Over the last few months as we have considered how we return to staging global events, our number one priority has been to protect the health and safety of everyone involved in ICC events,” ICC’s acting Chairman Imran Khawaja said in a statement released by world cricket governing body.
“We now have absolute clarity on the future of ICC events enabling all of our Members to focus on the rescheduling of lost international and domestic cricket. We will now proceed as planned with the Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 in India and host the 2022 edition in Australia,” ICC Chief Executive Manu Sawhney said.
Teams qualification for 2021 t20 world cup will be same as was for 2020 event and new qualification for 2022 event will take place in due course.
Men’s T20 World championship final is set to be played on 14 November in India meanwhile Australia to host 2022 world cup final on 13 November.
