India to play 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers round 1 on 12 March

Indian national football team to play preliminary joint qualification round 1 home leg match for 2018 FIFA World cup and 2019 AFC Asian Cup on 12 March against Nepal at Indira Gandhi Athletics Stadium in Guwahati. The official draw for AFC Asian cup 2019 and FIFA world cup 2018 preliminary joint qualification round 1 was held in Kuala Lumpur on 10 February 2015.

This draw consisted 12 Asian teams India, Cambodia, Sri Lanka, Yemen, Mongolia, Timor Leste, Nepal, Chinese Taipei, Macau, Pakistan, Brunei and Bhutan. These teams are paired in six groups to face each other in a home and away game. India will play their away game on 17 March.

The winning six teams from round-1 will enter in the round 2 joint qualification which is scheduled to take place from 11 June 2015 to 29 March 2016. Winning 6 nations will compete with top 34 teams. These 40 teams will be then categorized into 8 groups to play second round.

Group winning 8 teams and best four runners-up will qualify for AFC Asian cup 2019 and final qualifying round for 2018 FIFA world cup at Russia.
