Indonesia reveals plan to host 2032 Olympics after hosting Asian Games successfully in Jakarta and Palembang. Indonesian President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo confirmed that country would bid to get hosting rights for Olympic Games 2032.
“With the experience we have in organizing the 18th Asian Games, we are sure Indonesia can also host a bigger event and 2032 Olympics are bigger one,” President Widodo said.
After meeting with the presidents of IOC and AOC, Indonesia’s Jokowi stated publicly that country hosted Asian Games successfully and ready for hosting such kind of bigger events. And it would have been great if we could manage to get 2032 Olympic Games hosting rights.
A sport science lecturer from one of the top Indonesian universities Institute of Technology Bandung, Tommy Apriantono told AFP that Olympics are much bigger and different than Asiads and experience of hosting Asian Games, would definitely help the nation to go for Olympic Games.
“We have successfully hosted the Asian Games despite all the shortcomings. I think Indonesia is good enough, it’s worth (bidding)… but we have to really prepare for it. Now we have experience with the Asian Games… (but) the Olympics is different, there are more participants and the pressure is bigger,” Tommy said as saying by AFP.
International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach welcomed Indonesia’s bid for hosting 2032 Olympics after their brilliant run of Asian Games 2018.
“Because with this Asian Games, with this great success, Indonesia has shown that they have all the ingredients to hold the Olympics successfully,” Bach said.
As per 18th Asian Games stats, around 12000 athletes from 45 countries took participation and Indonesia hosted the event quite amazingly with opening and closing ceremonies. Indonesian athletes performed well as nation bagged 30 golds.
Next Summer Olympic Games are scheduled to take place in Tokyo in 2020. And then France (2024) and Los Angeles (2028).
