Russian tennis player Ekaterina Makarova has qualified for the semifinal match of 2015 Australian Open. She has beaten Romania player Simona Halep in the quarterfinal game played here at Melbourne. Ekaterina will now play semifinal against Maria Sharapova.
Number 10 seed Makarova defeated Halep by 6-4 and 6-0 in the quarterfinal game to make it through to semis. Romanian No 3 seeded Simona was heading in the first set as she was leading once by 4-2 but Russian beauty took her game level up and didn’t allow Halep to win single game after it. After winning the match Makarova also mentioned that Simona played well and she fought enough to beat her.
Makarova said, “It’s a great feeling, I’m so happy that I came through. She is a tough opponent and I lost to her (in their only previous meeting) two years ago. She never gives up, she is always fighting and every point is long. It was really tough and I am happy that I stayed solid and in my game.”
Simona Halep was disappointed after the defeat and she accepted that it was not her day. She credited Makarova for her brilliant show at the court.
Halep said, “I practised very well in the morning, but maybe I was a little bit too stressed before I started the match. I had a bad day but she played well and everything was in for her so she deserves to win.”
