Pakistan 15-man team confirmed for 2019 world cup
Final Pakistan cricket team has been declared for ICC World Cup 2019. The 15-member pak squad includes star fast bowlers Mohammed Amir, Wahab Riaz and Asif Ali. Amir and Riaz were not part of the preliminary roster announced by PCB few days back.
Mohammad Amir was not part of the initial squad and he’s replaced Junaid Khan in the Pakistan team. Meanwhile Wahab Riaz who played last ODI for national team two years back in ICC Champions Trophy, is called for the sports’ showpiece event. These two pace bowlers were not part of Men In Green squad that competed against England in recent ODI series where team faced 4-0 defeat.
“Junaid and Faheem had been originally preferred over a few other bowlers based on their recent performances and the investment we had made on them since 2017. They had the opportunity to cement their Word Cup spots, but they were well below-par in the series against England even though they were up against the difficult challenge of bowling on placid and batsmen-friendly wickets,” chief selector Inzamam said.
“After it became obvious that the bat is likely to dominate the ball in the World Cup, we revisited our strategy and reverted to the pace of Mohammad Amir and Wahab Riaz. Furthermore, Amir and Wahab give the fast bowling attack more experience to back and support the relatively inexperienced but immensely talent Shaheen Shah Afridi and Mohammad Hasnain,” he added.
