The match was played at the Municipal Stadium, Concepcion where the winner would meet Argentina in the semifinal. Brazil fielded the same starting eleven that played against Venezuela and Paraguay made five notable changes with Roque Santa Cruz back in the team. Brazil has lost just one time in their last eleven outing, the lost came in the previous edition of Copa America when Paraguay beat them on Penalties.
With no Neymar in the team, Brazil had all eyes on the Liverpool duo Coutinho and Firmino. Paraguay was expected to give a tough fight. The first half began and Brazil looked to dominate with possession. Paraguay looked dangerous on counter-attacks. Some attempts were made by Santa Cruz and Valdez in the opening minutes until Robinho found the net in the 15th minute when a cross from Dani Alves was ran over by Firmino knowing Robinho is behind. Brazil was leading 1-0 in the 15 minutes of the game.
Paraguay suddenly started to attack and going after the ball. They showed immense energy to snatch the ball using sliding tackles every now and then. Bruno Valdez was booked too, for a wrong tackle to Felipe Luis. Brazil hold on the defensive game thereafter and the first half ended Brazil leading 1-0.
Paraguay once again needed to pull back a goal like they did against Argentina. They dominated the possession and was playing an attacking game. Edgar Benitez was booked in the 50th minute but it was one way traffic in the second half till now until Coutinho made a splendid move to give a pass to Robinho who was ruled out offside.
Thiago Silva escaped a penalty when he pulled down Valdez which was missed by referee. Firmino who hadn’t been impressive and Willian was called off. Then Thiago Silva flapped a tame cross on the edge of the penalty box by hand and awarded Paraguay a penalty. Gonzalez scored the penalty and score is level now.
Robinho was called off and it was assumed that Dunga was going for penalties by now. Coutinho showed his class to give a scare to Paraguay but the game ended in a 1- draw and was headed to penalties.

V Caceres gave the advantage to Paraguay. 1-2

Bobedillo hit the top corner. Excellent one to lead again. 2-3 Paraguay.
Doughlas Costa missed the shot. Brazil on the blink of a loss 2-3
Paraguay needed to convert one but Santa Cru failed. Brazil got one more chance. Still 2-3
Coutinho, the man of the day for Brazil, kept the game alive. Brazil 3-3 Paraguay
Gonzalez who scored the penalty in the game took the last penalty. Brazil needed to save it but Jefferson couldn’t even touch the ball. Brazil bowed out of the tournament on penalties once again.
Paraguay beat Brazil 4-3 on Penalties after the match ended at 1-1. They will now meet Argentina in the second semifinal.
