Great Britain’s number one women tennis player Heather Watson will be making debut in Hopman Cup on 5th January 2015 when playing match against France’s Alize Cornet at Perth Arena, Australia. She will also play with British tennis star Andy Murray in mixed-double match.
Heather Watson said, “I’ve never played mixed doubles with Andy. I don’t think I’ve ever even been on a court with him before. I’m really looking forward to it, getting to know him better. Hopefully I can pick his brain a bit.”
Andy Murray appeared two times in previous hopman cup tournaments but failed to win the title. Laura Robson was the partner of Murray in those silver medal wins. Watson got opportunity this time to play with Andy Murray as Robson has been facing some wrist injury issue.
“I feel like I can learn so much from him from being on the court with him. The fact that he’s won two slams is incredible, especially with all the pressure of the country on him because there’s no other top male or female, so he’s literally got the weight on his shoulders,” she added.
Watson never appeared in Hopman Cup and that’s why she is excited for the tournament. She said, “I feel like I’ve played some of the best tennis I’ve ever played in my life this year and I’m going to continue to do that. I like volleying, so I’m trying to come into the net more.
