India will be participating in the 31st Summer Olympic Games which are scheduled to play from 5 to 21 August, 2016 at Rio de Janeiro in Brazil. It will be India’s 24th appearance in Summer Games. As on 19 September 2015, 57 Indian athletes have qualified in 5 different sports at Rio Olympics 2016.
India has qualified for Archery, Athletics, Field Hockey, Shooting and Wrestling sports in Summer Olympics 2016.

Field Hockey
Both men’s and women’s national field hockey teams sealed Rio Olympic berths by winning required tournaments/matches for the qualification. A total number of 32 players will represent Indian field hockey in the prestigious event as 16 players each from men’s and women’s teams will play in the competition.
Indian men’s hockey team won gold medal at 2014 Asian Games which made them through to the 2016 Summer Games. On the other hand women’s national team qualified for Summer Olympics after 36 years span time by getting place in top 5 teams at 2014–15 Women’s FIH Hockey World League Semifinals.
