New Zealand won by 108 runs in Dunedin ODI against SL

New Zealand team has defeated Sri Lanka in the 5th One-Day match of 2014-15 Sri lanka tour of New Zealand. NZ won by 108 runs in Dunedin ODI. Grant Elliott and Luke Ronchi scored centuries for Kiwi team and put 360 runs on New Zealand scoreboard in 50 overs. Tillakaratne Dilshan hit century for Sri Lanka but couldn’t take his team towards victory and SL got all out in 43.4 overs on 252 score. NZ leads in the series by 3-1.

After losing toss New Zealand got bad start in Dunedin as on the very first ball of match Guptill got out on duck. Then Kane Williamson and captain McCullum built partnership of 51 runs for the second wicket. Brendon McCullum out on 25 individual score. After this Kiwi team lost quick wickets and lost 5 wickets at the score of 93 in 20 overs. NZ was in trouble and Grant Elliott and Luke Ronchi were on the crease.

Both Ronchi and Elliott played sensibly and took New Zealand score past 150 runs in 28.4 overs. After completion of 33 overs New Zealand were at 183/5. Ronchi was looking dangerous and he completed fifty in 38 balls. Both batsmen built 100 runs partnership for the 6th wicket in 87 balls. Elliott also made his 50 in 59 balls with four boundaries.

Both batsmen were batting now aggressively, especially Ronchi. He made his maiden ODI hundred in 74 balls with 9 fours and 3 sixes. NZ completed 250 runs in 43rd over. Next 50 runs of Kiwi inning came in 24 balls and NZ reached to 300 in 46.1 overs. The sixth wicket partnership now was 250 in 171 balls. Elliott completed his second odi century in 93 balls with 7 fours and two huge sixes.

After completion of 50 overs Ronchi made 170 runs in 99 balls (14 x 4, 9 x 6) whereas Elliott scored 104 in 96 balls (7 x 4, 2 x 6). New Zealand put 360 runs on the scoreboard after 50 overs. Thirimanne and Kulasekara took 2-2 wickets each and Perera took one wicket in Kiwi inning.

In the chase of big total Sri lanka got good start and both opener Dilshan and Thirimanne added 93 runs for the first wicket stand in 18.3 overs. Thirrimanne made 45 runs in 65 balls before getting out. Sangakkara tried to give support to Dilshan but he failed and dismissed on 9. Dilshan completed 50 in 54 balls. Sri Lanka reached to 150 mark in 28.3 overs for the lost of two wickets.

Jayawardene and Dilshan built good partnership  for SL that could guide them towards win. Tillakaratne Dilshan completed hundred in 95 balls with 15 boundaries and one six. Trent Boult made New Zealand came back in the match as he dismissed Jayawardene on the score of 30 individual. Sri Lanka lost third wicket on 211 in 36th over. After Jayawardene dismissal, Sri lanka inning fall down and whole team got all out in 43.4 overs. Sri Lanka made on 252 runs in the chase of 360.

New Zealand won by 108 runs in the fifth ODI match at Dunedin. Now NZ leads the series by 3-1.
