Perth Scorchers wins Big Bash League successively 2nd time

Perth Scorchers has won big bash league title for the successive second time in tournament’s history. Perth defeats Sydney Sixers in the BBL-04 final on 28 January at Manuka Oval, Canberra to become champions. This is the 2nd occasion when Scorchers won big bash title in their fourth final appearance. Last year Perth Scorchers beat Hobart Hurricanes in the final to become champs.

It was a nail biting final and it went to the last ball of match. Sydney 6ers won toss and chose to bat first. They didn’t get good start and lost two quick wickets on the score of 7 in 3 overs. Maddinson and Henriques tried to build the partnership but Yasir Arafat dismissed Maddinson on 19 when SYS were at 44 in 9th over. After this in-form batsman Joardan Silk dismissed in the very next over and Sixers were at 49/4 in 10th over.

Skipper Henriques played captain’s knock and built 98 runs partnership with Carters to take Sydney Sixers past 140. They set a target of 148 runs for Perth in twenty20 overs. Henriques made 77 in 57 balls.

In the chase of 148, Perth Scorchers got brilliant start and openers Marsh and Klinger added 66 runs for first wicket in 10 overs. Suddenly things changed and Brett Lee took Klinger’s wicket. After this captain Voges and Marsh handled the situation took team’s total past 100 in 16th over. Doug Bollinger dismissed Voges in 17th over to make final interesting.

After this suddenly Scorchers lost quick wickets as Nathan Lyon dismissed dangerous Marsh who was batting on 73 in 59 balls. Lyon also took 2nd wicket of the match in the same over.

So the match was in interesting mode and Perth needed 15 runs in 8 balls. In the last over Scorchers needed 8 runs with 6 wickets in hand and last cricket match playing Brett Lee was bowling final over as he announced retirement from cricket.

Brett Lee bowled exceptionally well and took two consecutive wickets but couldn’t stop Perth to win the game. Perth Scorchers won BBL-04 final on the last ball of match and they beat SYS by 4 wickets. Shaun Marsh was announced man of the match for his match winning 73. Jacques Kallis was awarded man of the player.
